Description
Kakashi is a studio album by Japanese saxophonist and composer Yasuaki Shimizu, first released in 1982 through the Better Days label. Recorded at Nippon Columbia Studios in Tokyo, the album was produced by Shimizu and Aki Ikuta.
Melding jazz, electronica, synth-pop, and more, Kakashi was initially a Japanese-only release. However, its 2017 reissue on Palto Flats and WRWTFWW Records has brought it to a global audience, garnering renewed attention and critical acclaim.
As for what Kakashi actually is—jazz, electronica, dub, synth-pop, ambient? It’s a genre-bending mix that’s hard to pin down. Too much? Nobody thinks that.
