I Am Not There Anymore
Description
In his review for Pitchfork, Marc Hogan rated the album 8.0 out of 10, highlighting its "newfound sonic adventurousness and evocative dream-logic lyrics," calling it "a bold quest into the vast unknown" for the band. Tom Bolton at The Quietus speculated that it may be the band's best album, describing it as "a complete world, with an unmistakable musical identity." Sunnyvale of Sputnikmusic scored it 4.3 out of 5, noting the high quality but mentioning that the album runs too long and the personal nature of the lyrics may hinder appreciation. Jason Anderson of Uncut gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars, calling it "further departure from convention." Mark Richardson in the Wall Street Journal compared it to The Beatles and Donovan, stating that despite the arcane lyrics, it offers plenty to hum and lovely instrumental refrains. Uncut editor Michael Bonner included the album on his list of the year's best.
