Description
We Release Jazz (WRWTFWW Records' sister-label) has reissued the Japanese jazz album Mellow Dream (1977) by pianist Ryo Fukui, alongside its predecessor Scenery. The reissue features both 180g and 140g vinyl editions, as well as a digipack CD, all sourced from the original masters and mastered at half speed for enhanced audio quality.
Mellow Dream builds upon the foundations laid by Scenery, showcasing Fukui's exploration of modal, bop, and cool jazz. The album delves into more mellow and soulful territories with tracks like "Mellow Dream" and "My Foolish Heart," while also presenting dynamic performances such as "Baron Potato Blues" and "Horizon," which highlight the trio's virtuosity. Featuring Satoshi Denpo on bass and Yoshinori Fukui on drums, the album exemplifies Fukui's blend of melancholy and joy within jazz.
Following the releases of Scenery and Mellow Dream, Fukui focused on live performances, notably at Sapporo’s Slowboat Jazz Club, which he co-founded. He also released two live albums. Ryo Fukui passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a significant impact on the jazz community.
