Description
Reet is a hidden gem from the late 1960s folk/psych-folk scene, capturing the pure voice and guitar work of Reet Hendrikson on her only recorded album. Captured by Andres Raudsepp in 1969, this album echoes the sounds of Sibylle Baier, Vashti Bunyan, Molly Drake, and Bridget St. John, deserving a wider audience.
Born in Estonia just before the 1944 exodus, Hendrikson grew up in Sweden and studied in the US in 1967. By 1968, she had moved to Canada, where her authentic Estonian folk arrangements and pure voice resonated deeply. Her arrival in Canada and her connection with Estonian expatriates were notable, and Raudsepp quickly recorded her folk songs.
Hendrikson's journey continued in Boston, where she joined a folk music circle, and later returned to Sweden in the 1980s, leading an Estonian women’s society and aiding Estonian musicians with resources from the Swedish National Radio Archives.
Reet Hendrikson passed away in Stockholm in the autumn of 2000. This reissue aims to revive her remarkable contributions to folk music.
