Description
Ballads is a jazz album by John Coltrane, released in January 1963 by Impulse! Records with catalog numbers A-32 (mono) and AS-32 (stereo). It was recorded in December 1961 and 1962. According to critic Gene Lees, the quartet had never played the tunes before, arriving with sheet music and spending about half an hour discussing and semi-rehearsing each song before recording. All tracks were recorded in a single take, except for "All or Nothing at All." The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008.
