Description
Insurance salesman Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) falls under the spell of Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck) — and agrees to help her murder her husband for the insurance money. Billy Wilder's definitive film noir, scripted with Raymond Chandler from James M. Cain's novella, remains the template for every story of fatal attraction, flawed masculinity, and irresistible crime that followed. Edward G. Robinson's performance as the claims investigator who suspects everything is one of the glories of Hollywood acting.
