Durutti Column remains one of the most sought-after bands of the English post-punk era. Since their debut album The Return of Durutti Column (1980) on Factory Records, guitarist, pianist, and composer Vini Reilly has released a series of albums bridging new wave and ambient music. Alongside drummer Bruce Mitchell, who has worked with artists like Simply Red and Rod Stewart, Reilly helped shape the future of the Manchester music scene, following in the footsteps of pioneers like Joy Division and A Certain Ratio, and influencing future bands such as Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses. MATERIALI SONORI invited The Durutti Column to perform at the first edition of the Greetings Festival in San Giovanni Valdarno in 1985, establishing a lasting connection with the band. It was Reilly who initiated the Greetings series, with tracks like "Florence Sunset," "San Giovanni Dawn," and "For Friends In Italy." MATERIALI SONORI also dedicated the first issue of Sonora magazine to Reilly and Mitchell, featuring an unreleased track on the accompanying CD. Dry, recorded in Manchester in 1990, explores rarefied moods and subterranean soundscapes. The album’s fifteen tracks (55 minutes total) feature Reilly on guitar and piano, Mitchell on electronic and acoustic percussion, and additional instruments like clarinet (played by Bruce's daughter, Zinnia Mitchell-Williams), harmonica, viola, and keyboards. The album blends melancholy rock with progressive New Age elements, further solidifying Durutti Column’s unique sound.
