The Plague Dogs (Blu-ray)

Rowf, a large mutt exhausted by repeated near-drowning experiments, and Snitter, a fox terrier haunted by fragmented memories of his former owner, escape from a government research facility in the English Lake District. Struggling to survive in the wild while hunted by scientists, soldiers, and the press, the two dogs search desperately for a place called the Island — where people do not hurt animals.

Martin Rosen’s devastating animated adaptation of Richard Adams’ novel (Watership Down) is a deeply moving, at times harrowing examination of animal experimentation and the relationship between humans and the animals in their care.
