Description

Ray Bradbury's celebrated dystopian novel comes to life in François Truffaut's only English-language film, a visually striking science fiction fable in which fireman Montag (Oskar Werner) is charged not with extinguishing fires, but with burning books. When he meets a revolutionary schoolteacher (Julie Christie) who dares to read, he is forced to choose between suffocating conformity and the dangerous, liberating power of literature. Shot in lush colour by cinematographer Nicolas Roeg, Fahrenheit 451 is an eerily prescient meditation on censorship, totalitarianism, and the enduring importance of the written word.
