Description
Released in 1957, Little Girl Blue was Nina Simone's debut album. Issued on the Bethlehem label, it features Simone on vocals and piano, accompanied by bassist Jimmy Bond—known for his work with the Chet Baker Quartet—and drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath, one of the renowned Heath brothers (alongside saxophonist Jimmy Heath and bassist Percy Heath).
The album includes tracks that have become timeless classics, including Simone’s iconic rendition of “My Baby Just Cares For Me.” Thom Jurek of All Music Guide awarded the album four stars, praising it for highlighting Simone’s mysterious and sensual ballad voice, as well as her authoritative and elegantly enigmatic up-tempo jazz style.
