Description
The eighth studio album by Mark E. Smith's Manchester post-punk outfit is widely considered the peak of their discography, showcasing the band operating, as The Guardian put it, just on the edge of the mainstream at the height of their accessibility and yet strangeness. Brix Smith's pop sensibilities and guitar hooks give the 1985 record a propulsive energy that still sounds unlike anything else, and it placed 13th on Pitchfork's list of the best albums of the 1980s.
