Description
Für Alina was first performed in Tallinn in 1976, alongside six other works, marking the introduction of Pärt's tintinnabuli style.
The title parallels Beethoven's Für Elise. While the dedicatee of Beethoven's piece remains unclear, Für Alina was dedicated to the eighteen-year-old daughter of a family friend. After the family broke up, the daughter moved to England with her father. The piece was intended as a consolation for the girl's mother, who missed her child, and its introspective nature evokes images of youth venturing into the world
