I Don’t Have Time To Lie To You is a new album of unreleased tracks from the late Abner Jay, a truly independent artist known for his haunting one-man band performances. The album features powerful renditions of classics like “I’m So Depressed” and “Ol' Man River,” showcasing his deep vocals, electric guitar, harmonica, and tribal bass drum. Abner recorded these songs throughout the '50s, '60s, and '70s, reworking them across different styles—from R&B to folk ballads to home recordings. While the exact dates of these recordings are unknown, their timeless quality is undeniable. Abner, who performed at swap meets and fairs in his custom trailer, traveled the U.S. from the 1930s until his death in 1993. I Don’t Have Time To Lie To You is perhaps his best full album, offering an unflinching, heartfelt take on the country he knew. Licensed from Brandie Records and his family.
