Description
Lars von Trier's devastating, Palme d'Or–winning drama stars Emily Watson in a career-defining performance as Bess McNeil, a naive young Scottish woman whose devotion to her paralyzed oil-rig worker husband leads her down a path of self-destruction she believes will save him. Shot in von Trier's jagged, handheld Dogme-adjacent style and accompanied by a luminous 70s pop soundtrack, Breaking the Waves is one of the most emotionally overwhelming films of its decade.
