Description
Two drifters — the Driver (James Taylor) and the Mechanic (Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson) — travel the American Southwest in their souped-up '55 Chevy, accepting a cross-country race with a lonely middle-aged man in a GTO (Warren Oates). Monte Hellman's cult road movie is one of the great American films of the early 1970s: laconic, existential, and shot with a poetic emptiness that feels genuinely terminal.
