Description
Reissue of a highly sought-after Brij Bhushan Kabra LP, now available and remastered. In the 1920s, Hawaiian musician Tau Moe introduced Hawaiian music to India. After settling in Calcutta in the 1940s, Moe and his family taught and promoted Hawaiian music, building and selling guitars to local musicians. Indian composers adapted these instruments to play ragas, traditional Indian melodic patterns. Brij Bhushan Kabra, influenced by the steel guitar, studied with Ali Akbar Khan and developed a style that incorporated Indian classical music. Using a modified Gibson Super 400, Kabra set the standard for Indian slide guitar, becoming a master of the instrument.
