Description

Mark Fry was 19 and studying painting in Italy when he walked into RCA’s Italian subsidiary, played some songs, and was signed to record what would become a legendary album. His initial recordings were promising, leading to a collaboration with members of the Scottish band Middle of the Road, who were in Rome under contract to RCA Italiana. In a basement home studio, using two 4-track reel-to-reel recorders, Fry's visions took shape in a dreamy style described as “Nick Drake meets Dr. Strangely Strange with a touch of Lewis Carroll.”

Pressed in limited quantities for Vincenzo Micocci’s RCA sublabel It, Alice became an elusive masterpiece. Fry returned to England in 1971 and traveled the world, playing music and painting. By the time the album was rediscovered, its master tapes were believed lost. This pristine transfer reveals nuances not found on any pressings except the original It releases.
