Description
A black-clad gunslinger — played by Jodorowsky himself — rides through a mythical desert with his naked young son, leaving a trail of corpses in his wake as he seeks to defeat the four greatest gun masters in the land. Brutal, hallucinatory, and shot through with genuine menace, El Topo defies every convention of the Western — and of cinema itself — to become something closer to a peyote vision or a medieval passion play than a genre film.
The original midnight movie, screened at New York's Elgin Theatre at midnight through 1970 and 1971 after John Lennon championed it to Allen Klein, El Topo single-handedly invented the cult film as a cultural institution. Restored and presented on Blu-ray by ABKCO, with supervision by Jodorowsky.
