Description
Jodorowsky's debut feature, adapted from Fernando Arrabal's absurdist play. Fando (Sergio Kleiner) and his paralyzed companion Lis (Diana Mariscal) journey through a post-apocalyptic wasteland in search of the mythical city of Tar, where all desires are fulfilled. What they encounter along the way — circus freaks, grieving women in a cemetery, mud-bathing aristocrats — constitutes one of the most strange and uncompromising debuts in cinema history.
Screened at the Acapulco Film Festival in 1968, Fando y Lis caused a riot and was briefly banned in Mexico, establishing Jodorowsky's reputation for transgression before he had made a second film. Presented on Blu-ray by ABKCO from a new restoration.
