Originally released in 1959 on the Mainstream label, New Directions in Music 2 collects crucial early works by Morton Feldman composed between 1951 and 1957. Featuring graphic notation and open forms, the album captures Feldman's signature blend of silence, delicate tonal color, and chance performance, closely tied to the New York abstract expressionist art scene. The cover art is by Philip Guston. This reissue is the first to restore the original sequence and Guston artwork.
