Description
Depression-era Illinois. Mike Sullivan (Tom Hanks) works as an enforcer for Irish mob boss John Rooney (Paul Newman). When his son Michael Jr. (Tyler Hoechlin) witnesses a mob killing, both father and son become targets — forcing them onto the road together in a journey that will test their bond and cost them everything. Sam Mendes's adaptation of the graphic novel, photographed by Conrad L. Hall in his final film (Academy Award, Cinematography), is a meditation on fathers and sons, violence and grace, rendered in breathtaking images.
