Description
New England, 1630. A devout Puritan family is expelled from their plantation settlement and ventures into the wilderness to build a farm at the edge of a vast, dark forest. When their infant son mysteriously vanishes and their crops begin to fail, the family turns on itself — and on their eldest daughter Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy) — as the suspicion of witchcraft takes hold.
Robert Eggers’s debut feature is a rigorous and deeply unsettling work of folk horror, built on meticulous historical research and shot in the bleak natural light of the period. Winner of Best Director at Sundance. Anya Taylor-Joy’s breakout performance announced the arrival of one of cinema’s great new presences.
